Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa is one of most amazing resorts in Dubai. From its name in Arabic meaning gateway to the sun, this hotel is indeed a true gateway to the desert of Dubai. Destination Dubai makes you discover this unique place...

Getting there

It takes about 45 minutes by car from the Dubai city center or its airport to reach the doors of the Bab Al Shams Hotel. In other words, the hotel is located right in the middle of the desert, away from the activity of the city, and offers an absolutely exotic setting to its visitors.

You can use the Al Qudra road, connected to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed highway, to reach the resort if you are driving or use the hotel transfer service to arrange transportation from the country's international airports.

Once there, you will be welcomed at the hotel in the ways of local Bedouin hospitality. At the reception, a fresh lemon-mint juice, the local refreshing drink, will be offered to welcome you and quench your thirst after your journey.

The reception and the interior of the hotel strongly resemble a Arabian palace of the 1001 nights tales, as much in the brightly colored decoration as in the traditional solid wood furniture or the rich Arab carpets. You will even find a real-life copper camel at the lobby, triggering on the spot your first souvenir photo opportunity at the Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa ...

The setting

With typical local architecture, the hotel is built with inspiration taken from the UAE Bedouin culture.

Built on the theme of a fortress and an ancient village in the middle of the desert, the hotel consists of several individual buildings, designed according to the original architectural style of early houses in the country.

Located in the heart of the Dubai desert, Bab Al Shams offers a unique and absolutely magical setting to its visitors.

Imagine the sand and dunes as far as the eye can see, a place of ultimate relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Walking through the property, you will feel like you are losing yourself in the maze of narrow streets of an oasis in the middle of the desert

An oasis set in an arid environment, the hotel is not without green spaces and water points that create an extremely refreshing atmosphere at any time of the year.

Water is omnipresent in the hotel, whether through irrigation canals similar to those previously used by the Bedouins to bring water from the oases to their place of life, or through the various fountains and ponds disseminated in the resort.

The lush greenery that grows around the place is absolutely incredible. You will find there palm trees, cactus, aloe vera plants and even flowering trees. A true ecosystem in the heart of the desert where many species of birds, lizards and other desert fauna live, and which you can discover and observe simply by walking through the alleys of the resort.

Walking around the hotel at the end of the day or very early in the morning, and without making a noise, can even get you a chance to see the gazelles grazing the surrounding greenery.

After sunset, the hotel takes on a whole new dimension. Illuminated by the moonlight and Arabic lamps lit throughout the hotel, the Bab Al Shams Resort & Spa's night view is surely the most romantic.

The rooms

The hotel offers 4 categories of rooms with a living area ranging from 37 to 65m²: superior room, terrace room, junior suite and deluxe suite.

The rooms of the hotel are also built according to the traditional architecture of the ancient Emirati houses.

Everything down to the smallest detail was designed and built into the local style and one would believe the rooms or buildings were just carved out of the sand ...

Inside the walls, purposely left rough and where alcoves have been dug, you will find typical objects of a traditional Emirati house, such as baskets or chests of solid wood and other hangings made out of goat and camel hair. The furniture of the rooms is made of solid wood produced by local craftsmen and wrought iron Arab chandeliers elegantly diffuse light in the different rooms.

The whole design of the rooms was conceived to integrate seemlessly local style and heritage, up to the slightest details such as light switches or even the taps in the bathroom ...

The bathroom in our room was also impressive in its design. We felt like entering an Arabic hammam where the bathtub and shower were carved out of the stone.

Although built in a traditional style, all the modern comforts are found in the rooms of Bab Al Shams. Thus air conditioning, LCD TV and espresso coffee machines are standard facilities in each room.

Leisure & Wellness

One of the places having made the reputation of the hotel and object of many photos memories or social networks posts is its famous huge infinity swimming pool open to the desert. By entering it you will instantly become the actor of an unrealistic scene by swimming in the middle of the dunes with the desert as a backdrop ...

In fact, the hotel does not have one but three swimming pools: the main infinity pool, a family pool and a children's pool.

A mini-golf course in the hotel gardens and an outdoor play area for children are also available around the pool.

The hotel also features a gym and spa, the Satori Spa, with individual rooms and couples rooms offering various massages and treatments to guests, all in a relaxing and soothing setting.

Desert activities can be booked by hotel guests. Activities available include open-top jeep scenic drive to explore the local fauna and flora, a fat-bike tour in the dunes in the morning, a sunset camel ride, archery initiation, or falconry demonstrations.

The restaurants

Al
 Forsan

Al Forsan is the all day dining restaurant of the hotel.

At breakfast Al Forsan offers a high quality buffet combining local and international dishes. You will for exemple be able to sample some of the finest honey of the region, including Sidr Yemen honey, during your breakfast at Al Forsan.

The buffet also includes a danish and pastries section, fresh fruits bar, a cold cut and cheese counters, live station for eggs and a variety of arabic, western and asian hot dishes.

One of the best breakfast we have had in Dubai until now!

For lunch and dinner Al Forsan offers an "à la carte" menu with a selection of international dishes and a buffet on weekends.

The restaurant also hosts a bar with pool table to chill-out after your dinner.

Al hadheerah

Al Hadheerah is definitely one of the most impressive restaurants and one of the most popular attractions for tourists visiting Dubai as well as for local residents ...

The concept of the restaurant is based on a buffet dinner with shows, all taking place in a unique setting.

Located in the middle of the desert, about a hundred meters from the hotel, the restaurant enjoys an exceptional environment.

Built on the theme of a fortress in the middle of the desert, the restaurant is made up of a souk hosting merchants selling souvenirs and local products, a heritage village, retracing the life of the first inhabitants of the country, and a central open space including the kitchens and the various buffets.

Tables are located opposite the stage, where shows take place during the evening.

The culinary offer of the restaurant is rich and impressive. You will find several stations where chefs cook and prepare dishes live, such as roasted meats or barbecued seafood.

Among the typical local dishes served at Al Hadheerah, we recommend you to taste the ouzzi, a slowly roasted lamb and served with rice, or the chicken byriani.

The sweets selection is equally impressive as the rest of the buffet. You will be able again to taste local specialties such as lugaimat, round donuts coated with dates syrup, Umm Ali, an Emirati pudding, and other local and international pastries.

Every evening, the Al Hadheerah restaurant offers its guests a high quality show for several hours. Performances include an oud player, tanoora dancers, or belly dancers. The Heritage show is the highlight of the evening and includes live cavalry scenes.

During the summer season the restaurant hosts guests under an air-conditioned tent. During the rest of the year, the entire restaurant is open-air and allows you to dine under the spectacle of a starry night. Fireworks are also organized on week-end nights.
